Equity market volatility, increases in longevity and changes in accounting rules have all emphasised the need for companies to reduce the risks posed by pension schemes on their finances.
While pension buyouts have become increasingly popular – with the market growing to around £8bn in 2008 – other ways of reducing the risks of pension schemes have also become more widely used and are often a way for companies to spread the cost of a de-risking exercise.
This important one-day forum looked at the key issues surrounding buyout and de-risking, essential for finance directors, pension trustees, scheme managers and administrators as well as consultants and advisers. Some of the industry's leading experts discussed the recent market developments, and gave delegates the fantastic opportunity to:
- Assess the case for buyout and risk reduction, and the security of buyout firms.
- Discover the advantages and pitfalls associated with buying a bulk annuity for just one section of a scheme’s membership.
- Explore different routes to risk reduction such as longevity insurance and capital market solutions.
- Assess whether a communications strategy should be changed for different groups of members such as pensioners or deferreds.
- Understand the wider public relations implications of buyouts.
- Get involved in a case study on how a buyout works in practice.
Thursday 30th April 2009, at the Radisson Edwardian Mayfair London.
Delegates were exclusively invited by Professional Pensions. Places were complimentary, but limited to 120 delegates and allocated on a first come first served basis.
Testimonials from industry peers who attended the event in 2008:
I enjoyed the Buyout Forum 2008 - not just the technical content but the
arrangements which were superb. The team did a splendid job of organising
everything and the whole day seemed to go smoothly and seamlessly. Other
organisations have a lot to learn!
